What's the worst job you've had?

Tell us about it?

Do you still work there?

I'm debating what makes a job worse, the kind of work or workplace conditions/atmosphere. I'll mention both.

The worst kind of work I've done is waitressing. I've done it twice and both times as filler jobs until a better opportunity came along. I wasn't at either job for more than a few months. I hate people so customer service jobs are definitely not for me. It didn't help that I wasn't good at it.

The top contender for worst job based on work conditions is ironically a job I had on a horse farm. Ironic because I love horses and farm work. The people I worked for were friendly enough but underneath I don't think they liked me very much. Nothing I did was good enough or I was just doing it wrong all together. The pay was a joke and I didn't get regular days off. I had worked there for two months when I got run over by a horse and injured my lower back. I probably should have gone to the doctor but the owner figured it was better if I kept moving to keep it limber. I got a two hour lunch. I didn't stand up for myself, sucked it up and did my job.
After Christmas they took their show horses to Scottsdale, AZ and I was left alone to take care of the farm. One of the owners would help me feeding pastures horses in the morning. After two and a half months without a day off I was burned out and finally quit when they came back from Arizona at the end of February. I worked there for 10 months.

i've had terrible jobs but working in a nursing home takes the cake for worst job, it really was so depressing, you can't make any real changes for the residents unless you have a big degree high-tier position. they were mistreated and miserable, especially the 2nd floor which was the memory care ward and basically hospice. there was a lot of toxic culture and drama in the workplace. my direct boss would constantly talk badly about everyone else, I couldn't stand her. they would try and get me to do things the wrong way to make general operations easier, then tell me to make sure it's proper when the state comes around for inspection, but even then the state would not do anything about what was blatantly wrong there and borderline illegal. the last straw for me was a resident "town hall" meeting where they could address concerns, and the director gaslit all of these old folk that their concerns were already addressed or not happening when I knew for a fact they were. also, a nurse would come around in a common gathering area and ask residents about their BM's in front of the others, which was very embarrassing for them, I made sure she got talked to about it but its unbelievably ridiculous how common that treatment is.

I think I will go with the food industry, no, I don't work there anymore. One was a pizzeria and the other was a chicken place, care to guess? Anyway. I'm okay with rude ass customers. They leave at the end of the day. It was the co-workers and management that made everything insufferable. No type of communication. No respect. Bad attitudes. Food has a whole different type of stress, at least for me.

My worst job was in retail. Never going to work at a store again.

I had a job for about 2 weeks at a printing company where the owner refused to let me utilize my graphics degree to do more for him. He said, "I hired you to do ____, so that's what you're going to do."
