Reading has two purpose, one, reading for knowledge, and two, reading for pleasure. In my early days, I mostly read for pleasure. Therefore, I always chose novels, short stories and poetry. However, these days, I mainly read for knowledge, thus, I read history, religion, politics, philosophy. Why do you read? Do you read for knowledge or pleasure?

Just for knowledge. I don't really think its fun :p

I read for both. Even fiction can make you learn and think about things in unique ways- but nonfiction can also just be fun to read, since I enjoy learning. So it's a toss up and the two basically just go hand-in-hand for me.

EDIT: Editing in my favorite example...

Magic or Madness by Justine Larbalestier. It used a unique mix of modern concepts with old ideas of magic. It also taught me coping skills I didn't expect would become coping skills, such as reciting the fibonacci sequence to use logic to calm down (it also taught me what that was before I learned it in school). But it did this in a fictional/fantastical methodology that was very fun~
